FROM BISSELL BROTHERS IN PORTLAND:
The next entry in our You Earned It series is available today: a dry-hopped saison benefitting Stepping Stone Housing Inc. You Earned It is a program in which our team members take turns brewing a batch of beer on our pilot system. A portion of the sales from draft pours and cans sold are donated to a non-profit of their choice. American Aquarium Drinker was brewed by Kevin Broydrick, member of our all-star taproom operations team and a familiar face to anyone who's been a regular at Bissell Brothers in the past five years. Why a dry-hopped saison? Kevin loves the character of French saison yeast, which tends to leave the beer super dry with lots of spicy, earthy notes — balanced nicely by a dry-hop with Nelson Sauvin and Hallertau Blanc. The name was borrowed from the first line of the first song, of one of his favorite albums, by one of his all-time favorite bands Wilco ... who happened to be scheduled to play here on Thompson's Point just in time for the release. During the planning stages he reached out to bassist (and midcoast Maine resident) John Stirratt, who recommended an organization based in Lincoln County called Stepping Stone Housing Inc. This local, volunteer-run, grassroots program is dedicated to helping those who earn less than a living wage find housing as a "stepping stone" to a better life. Learn more at steppingstonehousing.org As a lil' pre-Wilco treat, we'll be opening Bissell Brothers Kitchen tomorrow (Wednesday 8/25) for special hours from 3pm-7pm. Come through, grab some food, and try American Aquarium Drinker on draft or bring a 4-pack home to enjoy later. Either way, thanks for supporting our You Earned It series, which allows all members of our team to get hands on with brewing AND give back to our amazing community. Doesn't get much better than that! #youearnedit See Less — at Bissell Brothers.
